My name is Zachary Keller and I am currently serving as the Campus Advancement Senator-At-Large. The Campus Advancement Committee has been working very hard throughout the year to implement innovative ideas to benefit Drake students. One example is the “Rides at Drake” Facebook group, which serves as an online ride board.
Another initiative we plan to take further action on in the coming weeks is a student life picture competition. Students will submit photos of themselves or others enjoying the many aspects of Drake University student life, such as student organization events, Greek life, athletics, street painting, etc. The top pictures will then be framed with a slip of paper indicating who took the picture and hung in the stairway leading to upper Olmsted.
Finally, one of the newest responsibilities we’ve been given is to evaluate Free Movie Friday (FMF). Free Movie Friday, as the name implies, is a FREE showing of pre-released movies every Friday night around 9pm in Sussman (Bulldog) Theater. The inaugural FMF will be this Friday, February 8th, at 9pm. We will be showing the movie, Skyfall, and the event will be complete with a lot of free food and drink.
This was just one of the ideas that has come out of our committee discussions, but it has now become a larger project that we hope will grow to become an integral part of the Drake culture. We will review Free Movie Fridays weekly and always look for ways to improve it. So if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I hope to see you all there this Friday and keep your eyes open for the photo competition!
