Cowles “AfterHours” Space to open this week!
The time has finally come…Drake University has a 24-hour library study space!
The 24 hours, 5 days a week (who will really study all night on Friday and Saturday anyway) will begin this Wednesday at 1am!
If you haven’t been able to see the renovations to this study area, I encourage you to check it out. The space is intended for collaborative group work, as well as independent study. The interactive computer screens, white boards, and comfy (movable) furniture is definitely much more conducive to studying than the previous space. Printing, vending, renovated bathroom facilities, and an awesome water bottle filler are also available for students to use. Here is an informational link about “AfterHours”: http://library.drake.edu/about-us/after-hours-study/.
If you are interested in using this new study spot during “AfterHours” you will need to sign up for an access card. The process only takes about 5 minutes, as well as a short trip to facilities to pick up the card. Here is the link to sign up: https://library.drake.edu/after-hours-access/. Quick side note: since these access cards are rather expensive, if you lose your card you will have to pay a fee of $10.
In addition to this space, the newly renovated Cowles Café is also opening this week. Feel free to check out the coffee shop’s offerings and spend all those newly converted flex dollars or real money if you are an “off-campuser” like myself.
I would like to give a huge thanks to the library staff and all those involved with the library’s renovations. They were instrumental in making this project happen so quickly and were also very receptive to students’ ideas and feedback. I would also like to thank Senator Michael Riebel for initiating this project with the Board of Trustees and seeing it through. Thanks for all your hard work; it is much appreciated by the Drake community and myself!
That’s all for now, enjoy Parent’s weekend and this last bit of warm weather!
