Get to Know: Presidents’ Council

Around Drake University there are more than 160 recognized student organizations. Some of the larger, governmental organizations have presidents that sit on the Presidents; Council. This council, along with the student body president, meet work on collaborative efforts and tackle issues on campus.

Let’s get to know the members of the Presidents’ Council:

Student Body President – David Karaz

KarazDavid Karaz is a senior politics and accounting major from Fargo, ND. He has previously served as Drake’s First-Year Senator, Campus Advancement Senator-at-Large, and Vice President of Student Life. Karaz enjoys singing in the Drake Choir, singing in Drake’s male a cappella group, the Brocal Chords, and participating in Drake Greek Life. In Student Senate, he hopes to simplify and unify Drake’s student services and increase collaboration between similarly-charged student groups. Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) President – Kiah Swanson

SwansonKiah Swanson is a senior elementary education major from Fort Collins, Colo. She is currently serving as the president for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, or SAAC. Swanson is a part of the varsity women’s soccer team, and is the vice president for Mortar Board, publicity chair for Kappa Delta Pi and Drake Education Association, Seeds of Success, and is involved with many other organizations around the Drake community. She enjoys coaching youth soccer as well. Through SAAC, she hopes to create unity between the varsity teams as well as make positive connections with the rest of campus and the Drake community. Inerfraternity Council (IFC) President – Angel Gentchev

IFC PresidentAngel Gentchev is a junior actuarial science and finance major with a minor in mathematics. He has previously served as Vice-President of Club Volleyball, is a member of DASS (Drake Actuarial Student Society), and has held several leadership positions within his fraternity. He is highly devoted and loyal to Greek Life at Drake University, thus his deep passion for his presidency of the Interfraternity Council. He hopes to promote and develop a more unified fraternity system at Drake, and intertwine and encourage positive relations with other groups on campus. Student Alumni Association (SAA) President – Doug Brady

BradyDouglas Brady is a senior from Denver, Colo., pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a joint major in accounting and marketing. He competes for Drake’s Cross Country and Track teams, serves as the president of the Student Alumni Association, and is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (Business Fraternity). For leisure, he enjoys cheering on fellow varsity athletic teams and enjoying all that Des Moines has to offer. As a member of Presidential Panel, he hopes to not only share the values of the Student Alumni Association but also partner with the student organizations that embody Drake University. Student Activities Board (SAB) President/VP of Student Activities – Natalie Larson

LarsonNatalie Larson is a junior psychology major with concentrations in human resources and leadership from Burlington, Iowa. She has previously served as the Homecoming Co-Chair and Relays Co-Chair on SAB, and the Organizational Council Senator-at-Large on Student Senate. Within her position this year, she hopes to work with the Student Activities Board to provide campus with quality entertainment and programs as well as collaborate with other organizations to encourage diverse programming. Panhellenic (Panhel) Council President – Kathleen Diedrich

PanhelKathleen Diedrich is the president of the Panhellenic Council, the governing body of sororities at Drake. She is a senior elementary education major involved in her sorority, serves on the executive council of the education honors society (Kappa Delta Pi), and the Panhellenic Council. During her term on the Panhellenic Council, she hopes to create an emphasis on the fundamental values of Greek Life within the community and communicate those values to the Drake community as a whole.
