Health and Safety Senator
My name is Russell White, I’m a junior double majoring in Politics and International Relations. I’ve been involved with Student Senate for all three years of my Drake experience – from being the First-Year Interest Senator, to the Student Services Senator and now the Health and Safety Senator. Student Senate is far from being a perfect organization, but I don’t regret a single moment that I’ve spent with all the great individuals in Senate. I joined Student Senate because I wish to leave Drake University a better and improved campus in 2018 than how it was when I first stepped on to the campus in 2014. Improving the quality of education, the quality of services and helping to provide more opportunities for students are the reasons why I joined Student Senate and stayed with Student Senate.
I’m also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and I also participate in Model UN. I’m a Texan native and a Texan at heart, but I’ve enjoyed all the opportunities of learning more about Iowa and the rest of the Midwest. Through interning with a political campaign in 2014, seeing the Iowa caucuses for the first time, traveling to Chicago, traveling to Kansas City, and hearing from many well-respected and high-profile individuals I’d say I’ve had an amazing experience so far in the Midwest. I also had the distinct pleasure to join a class of fellow Drake students on a study abroad trip to Uganda this summer and it has been one of the most formative trips I’ve ever experienced.
As one of your student senators I am incredibly easy to talk to and I always welcome any feedback, constructive criticisms, issues or concerns that are on your mind. We are YOUR student representatives so please engage us and tell us what you’re thinking and how you’re feeling; we’re here for YOU, not the other way around.
